Our Story

In 1982, Lois Thomi faced a daunting diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. The months that followed were filled with fear and loneliness, as she felt isolated in her struggle. A turning point came when a former cancer patient reached out to offer encouragement, igniting a spark of hope in Lois. This act of kindness inspired her to establish Victory in the Valley in 1983, alongside her daughter, Diana.

What began as a small local cancer support group in Lois's living room has blossomed into a comprehensive organization dedicated to providing practical assistance, emotional encouragement, and spiritual support to cancer patients and their families. In 1986, the Lodge at Victory in the Valley was purchased to offer lodging for out-of-town patients receiving treatment in Wichita, Kansas. Since then, VV has served patients from over 350 cities across the state.

Today, Victory in the Valley provides over 100,000 support contacts annually, ensuring that no patient faces their journey alone. All services are offered at no charge, thanks to the generosity of donors who believe in the mission of VV.
