Our Story
In 1979, a dedicated group of citizens in the Northern Black Hills recognized the urgent need for services addressing domestic abuse and sexual violence. This led to the establishment of the Women in Crisis Coalition, which provided vital emergency shelter, food, and advocacy. Over the years, the organization evolved, becoming the Victims of Violence Intervention Program, Inc. and adopting the name Artemis House for its shelter. Celebrating over 40 years of unwavering commitment, Artemis House continues to be a beacon of hope for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
