Our Story

In the 1940s, a single mother faced the heartbreaking reality of leaving her son, a 13-year-old boy with cerebral palsy, alone by the window every day. Two compassionate women noticed his plight and decided to take action. They began carrying him and his wheelchair down narrow stairs for short field trips, opening up a world of experiences for him. This small act of kindness blossomed into a movement, as they soon began helping five individuals with disabilities. With the support of generous donors, they transformed a vacant house into a hub of activity, providing meals, entertainment, and essential day programs. This grassroots effort laid the foundation for what is now known as Camp Via West, a beacon of hope and empowerment for individuals with disabilities.
