Founded in 1983 by a dedicated group of volunteers, Via Cognitive Health emerged from a profound need for resources for families affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The journey began with the In-Home Respite Care program in 1986, providing essential support to caregivers. In 1989, the organization expanded its reach by opening a Day Center at Covenant Presbyterian Church, which has since evolved into a state-of-the-art Campus and Resource Center for Dementia and Cognitive Decline.

In 2024, the new facility opened its doors, thanks to the generous support of donors from Augusta and beyond. This center not only honors the legacy of Dr. Jud C. Hickey, the founding dean of the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Georgia, but also serves as a beacon of hope for families navigating the challenges of cognitive decline.

Impacting the Community

Via Cognitive Health has made a significant impact on the lives of its members. An impressive 73% of participants attending two or more days per week maintained or improved their cognitive scores. The day program is cost-effective, offering services at 60% less than traditional home health and nursing care, with needs-based scholarships available to ensure accessibility for all families. Remarkably, 100% of day program members had no hospital admissions, allowing caregivers to continue working and supporting their families.
