Transforming Lives: The Veterans & Community Housing Coalition

Established in 1983, the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition (VCHC) has been a beacon of hope for homeless veterans in Upstate New York. With a mission to provide safe and supportive housing, VCHC initiated the Vet House, a fourteen-bed transitional home for homeless male veterans, funded by the Veterans Administration. Over the years, VCHC has expanded its reach, developing affordable housing units in Wilton with support from HUD and NYS HCR.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by homeless veterans with families, VCHC has built additional units and acquired homes to accommodate veterans with disabilities and their families. In 2011, VCHC addressed the growing need for transitional housing for female veterans by purchasing a dedicated home in Ballston Spa, supported by the VA and NYSSHP.

In 2016, the Saratoga Veterans Apartment Program (SVAP) was launched to provide rent-free permanent housing and support services to low-income, disabled veterans and their families. Looking ahead, VCHC is excited to announce the Foreverly House initiative, aimed at providing stable housing for homeless veteran moms and their children, set to launch in 2024.
