About Venice Pride

For nearly a century, Los Angeles’ Westside has been a beacon of inclusivity and diversity. Long before West Hollywood emerged, this coastal region was home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, featuring numerous gay bars and bathhouses. In 2016, Venice Pride was born out of a grassroots effort to protect this community, following the closure of Roosterfish, the last remaining gay bar in Venice. The inaugural Pride celebration on June 3, 2016, marked a pivotal moment in the fight for visibility and acceptance.

Impact and Achievements

Venice Pride has made significant strides in promoting LGBTQ+ visibility and community support. Notable achievements include the unveiling of the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower, securing the first NFL team to sponsor an LGBT Pride event, and the grand re-opening of Roosterfish in June 2018. These milestones reflect a commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering a sense of belonging among queer Angelenos.
