Our Story

Founded in 1995 by Zeljko and Natasha Djukic in Washington, DC, Utopian Theatre Asylum Inc, known as TUTA, has been a beacon of artistic expression. Relocating to Chicago in 2002, TUTA has since presented numerous US premieres of foreign plays from countries such as France, Russia, Austria, and Serbia. Over the years, TUTA has produced 7 world premieres, 8 US premieres, and 4 Midwest premieres, alongside modern re-imaginings of classic works. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jacqueline Stone since 2012, TUTA has expanded its offerings to include productions for youth, exemplified by the US premiere of The Silent Language. TUTA's productions have been recognized on Chicago critics’ ‘best of the year’ list 8 times in the past decade, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovative theatre.
