Our Story
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1931 as the Art Barn in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established during the Great Depression by Alta Rawlins Jensen, UMOCA was envisioned as a community arts center, a gathering place for artists and art lovers alike. Over the decades, the organization has evolved, changing its name to the Salt Lake Art Center in 1958 and finally to UMOCA in 2011. Today, UMOCA focuses on contemporary art and community engagement, emphasizing education, inclusion, and support for local artists.
