For Susan Mitchell, the founder of US Horse Welfare and Rescue, a heart-wrenching story ignited a passion for saving horses. After reading about a teen who reclaimed her horse from a Pennsylvania kill lot, Susan was moved to tears. This emotional moment sparked a commitment to protect unwanted and at-risk equines from the horrors of the underground horse slaughter pipeline. Today, with a dedicated team of volunteers, USHWR works tirelessly to raise awareness and save America’s horses from unimaginable fates.
