Our Story

Founded in 1982 by a group of Urhobo students from Nigeria, the Urhobo Progressive Association in Houston began in a modest one-bedroom apartment. Over the years, it has grown from 17 members to over 120, dedicated to upholding Urhobo culture and unifying the community.

Our Impact

UPA Houston has successfully promoted Urhobo culture in the diaspora, significantly increasing community engagement and membership. The organization has also acquired land for a cultural center to serve the social, cultural, and educational needs of the Urhobo community.
