Our Story

The Urban League of Essex County, founded in 1917, has a rich history of advocating for civil rights and economic opportunities. Originally established to support black workers migrating from the South, ULEC has transformed into a comprehensive community development corporation. Today, it focuses on empowering local residents through education, job training, and community development initiatives.

Our Impact

ULEC has significantly supported the community by providing educational resources, job training, and emergency assistance during the pandemic. Over 250 young people have participated in coding programs, and countless families have received food and rental assistance.
