Our Story

Over 30 years ago, two Fourth Ward activists, Deacon Malcolm McLemore and Deacon Jean Cameron, along with Dr. Bob Randall, planted the seeds of change by starting a community garden in their neighborhood. This simple act of growing food not only provided nourishment but also fostered a sense of community, bringing neighbors together to share recipes, solve local issues, and celebrate life. The success of this garden inspired the creation of Urban Harvest in 1994, which has since cultivated a network of gardeners, educators, farmers, and community members dedicated to enhancing food accessibility.

Our Impact

Urban Harvest serves as a catalyst for transforming food accessibility in Greater Houston. By partnering with local farmers and gardeners, operating vibrant Farmers Markets, and providing comprehensive garden education, Urban Harvest is committed to reshaping how communities engage with and access fresh, locally sourced food.
