Our Story

In the early 1980s, Seattle faced economic challenges that left many families struggling to meet their basic needs. In response to the overwhelming demand for food assistance, community leaders, led by Jim Stockdale of University Christian Church, established the University District Food Bank in 1983. Since then, the organization has grown and adapted, moving to a new location in 2016 to better serve the community.

Our Impact

In 2023, the University District Food Bank experienced a staggering 60% increase in demand for services. Each week, over 2,200 families receive essential groceries, contributing to more than 3.4 million pounds of food distributed last year alone.
