Our Story

In October 1972, a community-driven initiative led to the establishment of the United Way of Horry County. A survey conducted by The Cumerford Corporation revealed a pressing need for a united approach to address local challenges. On February 7, 1973, a board of 29 local leaders came together to form this vital organization. The inaugural campaign raised $163,300, benefiting 13 nonprofit organizations. Over the years, United Way of Horry County has raised over $45 million, significantly impacting countless lives in the community.
