Our Story
In April 2002, photographer Rob Stewart embarked on a mission to save sharks, leading to the creation of the groundbreaking film Sharkwater. This journey spanned five years and twelve countries, facing challenges like attempted murder charges and corrupt governments. The film ignited a global movement, inspiring countless individuals to advocate for shark conservation and establish numerous NGOs. Tragically, Rob Stewart passed away on January 31, 2017, but his legacy lives on through millions of supporters dedicated to his mission.
Our Impact
With the support of passionate advocates, United Conservationists has made significant strides in shark conservation. The Fin Free movement has produced the 'Saving Sharks' PSAs, reaching over 2 million viewers. Legislative victories include bans on shark fin trade in Canada, Florida, and New Jersey, as well as the elimination of drift nets in California. The U.S. Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act has passed the House, and efforts continue to secure its final vote in the Senate.
