Our Story

Founded in 1973, United Community Housing Coalition emerged from the efforts of tenants in the Cass Corridor/Wayne State University area, who united to save their historic apartment building from neglect and deterioration. UCHC's mission is to empower low-income residents to stay in their homes and strengthen their communities through representation, support, and ownership.

Impact

In FY2023, UCHC represented or advised 18,098 landlord/tenant cases, assisted 4,670 clients with homeownership and foreclosure prevention, and provided housing placement or relocation advice to 1,018 clients. The successful advocacy for the Right to Counsel ordinance in Detroit ensures that low-income residents have legal representation in eviction cases.
