Our Story

In 1860, a group of four visionary women in Hartford, Connecticut, recognized a pressing issue: countless young boys were left orphaned or alone while their parents worked. They took action, creating the first Boys’ Club, a sanctuary that welcomed all boys regardless of their background. This initiative laid the foundation for what would evolve into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a network dedicated to providing safe, inclusive spaces for youth.

In 1938, community leaders in Santa Barbara identified a similar need for a youth center. Local firefighters transformed their old station into the Boys’ Club of Santa Barbara, which officially opened in 1947. Over the years, this club has nurtured countless young talents, producing notable alumni in sports and beyond.

Today, the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County (UBGC) encompasses multiple locations, serving thousands of members across the region. Each club has a rich history, united by a common goal: to create better futures for local youth through education, mentorship, and community engagement.

Impact

UBGC is dedicated to enabling all young people, especially those who need support the most, to become productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
