EIN: 82-3510252 · San Juan Capistrano, CA
Our Story
Unidos South OC was founded by John and Heather Chapman after their return from Peru, where they witnessed the disparities between communities. They focused their efforts on the Capistrano Villas neighborhood, launching programs like the Homework Club in 2017. This initiative grew from a handful of students to over thirty, fostering trust and engagement within the community. Officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in October 2018, Unidos South OC is dedicated to strengthening under-resourced neighborhoods in South Orange County.
Impact
Unidos South OC has empowered residents to take on leadership roles, leading to initiatives like the Community Leader Coalition, which advocates for affordable housing and has successfully influenced city policies. During the pandemic, the organization distributed 1.9 million pounds of food, showcasing its commitment to immediate needs and long-term community empowerment.
