Our Story

Unexpected Wildlife Refuge began as a vision of Hope Sawyer Buyukmihci and Cavit Buyukmihci, who dedicated their land to preserving the natural habitat for native wildlife. Spanning 767 acres of pristine pine lands, forests, fields, bogs, streams, and lakes, this refuge provides a safe haven for animals and plants indigenous to southern New Jersey.

The Refuge serves as a sanctuary for indigenous wildlife, allowing them to thrive without fear of human interference. It also acts as a 'living classroom' for the public, fostering an appreciation for wildlife protection and the importance of natural habitats.
