Our Story

Unbridled Spirits Thoroughbred Retirement Ranch, Inc. (USTRR) was founded by Christina Norris (Tina) in 2012, inspired by her lifelong passion for Thoroughbred racehorses. The journey began in 1971 at Prairie Meadows Racetrack in Iowa, where Tina's love for these majestic animals blossomed. Witnessing the harsh realities of the racing industry, including the fate of horses deemed unfit for racing, ignited a fire within her to advocate for their welfare.

After years of education and experience in marketing, Tina returned to her roots in Iowa, seizing the opportunity to create a sanctuary for off-the-track Thoroughbreds. Starting with just one horse named Misha, USTRR has grown into a haven for retired racehorses, providing them with the care and dignity they deserve.

Impact

The mission of USTRR is twofold: to offer a dignified retirement to Thoroughbreds whose racing careers have ended, and to educate the public on the necessary changes in the horseracing industry to ensure proper welfare for all horses. Each horse receives quality, lifelong care in a sanctuary setting, allowing them to live out their days in peace.
