Our Story

UDI Community Development Corporation, originally established as United Durham Incorporated in 1970, transitioned into a nonprofit organization in 1974. With a steadfast mission to enhance the economic welfare, education, and social conditions of low-income and underprivileged residents in Durham, UDI has dedicated over four decades to community service. The organization focuses on developing quality programs that include affordable housing, employment skills training, and opportunities for business ownership. A significant achievement includes the development of the UDI Industrial Park, which spans 91 acres and supports approximately 300 individuals daily.

Impact

UDI Community Development Corporation has made a profound impact by providing over $1 million in loans to small businesses, constructing a 32-unit facility for the elderly, and rehabilitating 50 units of affordable housing. The organization also developed a retail shopping center with the Food Lion grocery chain and extended sewer infrastructure by one mile along Fayetteville Road, paving the way for further commercial development.
