Our Story

Ubuntu Center for Peace is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to healing the wounds of trauma in Rwanda. Founded by individuals deeply affected by the 1994 genocide, the center implements a community-based social healing model that addresses both individual and collective traumas. By training Community Healing Assistants and School Healing Assistants, the center empowers local communities to support those suffering from mental health disorders, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life.

Impact

Since its inception, Ubuntu Center for Peace has trained 332 Community Healing Assistants and 152 School Healing Assistants, serving over 12,700 individuals, including 1,500 high school students. The results are profound: participants with poor wellbeing scores decreased from 28.8% to 12.4%, while those with high wellbeing scores increased from 11.6% to 39.1%. This transformation highlights the center's commitment to fostering mental wellness in the community.
