Our Story

Founded in 1973, Turtle Creek Valley Mental Health Mental Retardation Inc. began as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential mental health services to the Turtle Creek Valley community. Initially established through a Model Cities Grant, the organization has evolved significantly over the decades. In 1980, a federal grant transformed TCV into a community mental health center, expanding its services to include outpatient care, partial hospitalization, residential services, and case management. This growth allowed individuals and families to access vital mental health services, regardless of their financial situation.

In 1981, TCV Community Services extended its reach to the Steel Valley communities and launched a regional drug and alcohol program known as Alternatives. With ongoing support from state and federal funding, TCV continues to provide comprehensive services to uninsured individuals and families, utilizing a sliding fee scale based on income. Celebrating 40 years of dedicated service in 2010, TCV remains committed to offering a full continuum of mental health and substance abuse treatment programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
