Our Story
Founded in 1967 by Senator John Grotberg and local businessmen, TriCity Family Services began as the St. Charles Youth Project, aimed at supporting alienated youth in the community. With a modest budget and a single youth worker, the initiative quickly expanded, leading to the establishment of a coffeehouse for teens and a volunteer-run hotline. By the 1970s, the project consolidated its efforts under one roof in Geneva, evolving into the TriCity Family Project and later becoming TriCity Family Services in 1980. This transformation reflected a broader commitment to serving entire families, not just youth. Over the years, the organization has grown significantly, culminating in the construction of a new facility in 1993, which continues to serve as a hub for emotional wellness today.
