Our Story

In May 2002, a dedicated group of year-round swimming parents gathered to address the critical shortage of aquatic facilities in the Triangle area. Recognizing the growing needs of year-round and high school swim teams, they embarked on a mission to create a public aquatic center that would serve the health, safety, recreation, and competition needs of the community. This vision led to the establishment of the Triangle Aquatic Center, the largest nonprofit public aquatic facility in the United States, built without any tax funding or subsidies.

Impact

The Triangle Aquatic Center and its swim team, the TAC TITANS, have made a significant impact on the local swimming community. With over 600,000 visitors annually, TAC hosts more than 80 events each year and has produced six Olympians and Paralympians. The TITANS have won five of the last six NC Swimming Short Course Age Group Championships, showcasing the excellence of the program.
