Our Story

Founded in 1990, Housing Up began as Transitional Housing Corporation, inspired by a generous bequest that motivated volunteers from Christ Lutheran Church, Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, and Community Family Life Services to make a difference. The first step was acquiring an apartment building on Georgia Ave and Kennedy St NW, which provided transitional housing for 14 families. Over the years, Housing Up has evolved, now serving over 500 families through various housing programs across the District. The rebranding in 2016 reflects a commitment to permanent affordable housing solutions, showcasing the organization as a leader in innovative support for families experiencing homelessness.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Housing Up has been dedicated to serving the most vulnerable families in Washington, D.C. By providing stable housing and comprehensive support, the organization empowers families to break the cycle of generational poverty. In 2022, an impressive 98% of families maintained stable housing, positively impacting 1,446 children.
