TRANScend began as a choral project during director Felix Graham’s doctoral studies, addressing the underrepresentation of gender-diverse singers in choral music. Since its first concert in 2021, the organization has evolved into a professional space for trans and gender-expansive singers, performing in various venues and advocating for trans voices in music.
In just three years, TRANScend has commissioned new works, created a large-scale choral piece for Trans Day of Remembrance, and performed at diverse venues, including a Major League Soccer game. The ensemble made history as the first trans group to sing the liturgy in an Episcopalian mass, significantly enhancing visibility for trans voices in musical spaces.
