About Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural

In a community once devoid of bookstores and cultural spaces, Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural emerged as a beacon of hope and creativity. Founded by renowned author Luis J. Rodriguez, his wife Trini Rodriguez, and brother-in-law Enrique Sanchez, this cultural center honors the vibrant spirit of Luis's aunt, Tía Chucha, who inspired generations with her artistic flair and passion for the arts.

Since its inception in 2001, Tía Chucha’s has evolved from a humble café and bookstore into a thriving cultural arts center. After several relocations, the center now occupies a spacious venue in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, offering a diverse array of free to low-cost arts and literacy programming. This includes visual arts, music, dance, creative writing, and workshops in Mexica indigenous language and cosmology, all designed to empower and uplift the community.

Impact on the Community

Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural is dedicated to transforming lives through the arts and literacy. By providing accessible programming to an intergenerational and bilingual community, the center fosters creativity, cultural pride, and social activism. The impact is profound, as individuals and families engage in artistic expression and gain valuable skills that enhance their quality of life.
