In 1966, dedicated animal lovers raised funds to establish a modern animal shelter, which opened in 1968 in downtown Olympia. This shelter has been a cornerstone of the community, providing essential animal control services to cities like Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater. Over the years, the Humane Society has collaborated with Animal Services and other organizations to ensure the well-being of animals in Thurston County.
