Our Story

Thread was founded by Sarah Hemminger and her husband Ryan, who experienced firsthand the transformative power of relationships during challenging times. After Ryan's family faced a devastating crisis, a group of dedicated teachers stepped in to provide not just academic support, but also essential resources like food, clothing, and emotional guidance. This experience inspired Sarah to create Thread in 2004, aiming to connect young people in Baltimore with caring volunteers who can help them navigate their unique challenges.

Impact

Through the strong, enduring relationships formed within Thread, 67% of students graduate high school, and 57% of alumni complete a degree or certificate program. The commitment to support students for ten years ensures they have the resources and guidance needed to succeed.
