Ending Discrimination and Violence

Transforming Education for a Better Future

Founded by filmmaker and education activist Leslee Udwin, Think Equal is a global initiative born from the insights gained during the making of the documentary, India’s Daughter. This powerful film, which highlighted the brutal gang rape of a medical student in Delhi, ignited a worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls. Through extensive interviews with the perpetrators, it became clear that the root cause of such violence lies in socio-cultural programming of inequality.

Recognizing that all forms of inequality stem from the same source, Think Equal aims to change discriminatory mindsets through education. The initiative emphasizes the importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) alongside traditional literacy and numeracy. Neuroscientific research shows that the most effective time to alter mindsets and behaviors is before the age of six, making early education crucial.
