The Wellness Plan
EIN: 38-2008890 · Detroit, MI
Our Story
The Wellness Plan Medical Centers has a rich history dating back to 1969, when a health care initiative was launched to deliver essential health services to low-income areas in Detroit. Founded in 1973 as a Medicaid Health Maintenance Organization, it became the state's largest Medicaid HMO by the late 1990s. After facing financial challenges in the 2000s, it transitioned to a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike in 2007, allowing it to provide direct primary care services. Today, it operates six medical centers, focusing on providing affordable, high-quality healthcare to underserved communities in metro Detroit.
Impact
The Wellness Plan has significantly increased its patient encounters from 33,000 to over 73,000 annually, serving more than 84% more patients in recent years. This growth has enabled the organization to expand its services and deliver healthcare to thousands in need.
