Established in 1963 by Dr. Walter E. Boehm, a dedicated neurosurgeon, the Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center was created to address the urgent needs of children born with birth defects, particularly hydrocephalus and spina bifida. Located at Children's Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Center has grown to serve over 970 clients across the South, providing essential medical and psychosocial support.
The mission of the Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center is to transform the lives of individuals affected by birth defects of the brain and spinal column. Through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program, the Center offers vital medical, financial, and psychosocial assistance to children and their families.
