Our Story

In 1890, a young American named Ida Sophia Scudder traveled to India, where she witnessed the tragic deaths of women due to inadequate medical care. This experience ignited her passion for serving the women of India. After returning to the U.S. to become a doctor, she opened a one-bed clinic in 1900, which eventually evolved into the renowned Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore. Today, CMC Vellore serves over two million patients annually and trains thousands of healthcare professionals.
