Founded in 2002, The Tristesse Grief Center was inspired by the courageous spirit of Tristesse "Tess" Gonsalves, a 14-year-old girl who faced cancer with grace. Concerned for her mother and others she would leave behind, Tess envisioned a sanctuary for those grieving. Her mother, Laura, brought this vision to life, creating a haven for individuals of all ages to find understanding, comfort, and hope.
Each year, The Grief Center serves over 3,000 individuals through personalized counseling, therapeutic loss groups, and community outreach initiatives. Notably, the Center was honored with the Champion of Children’s Health Award in 2022 and recognized as a Childhood Bereavement Changemaker in 2023, reflecting its commitment to improving health outcomes for children in underserved areas.
