The Sheltering Arms
EIN: 58-0566236 · Atlanta, GA
Our Story
Founded in 1888 by a group of compassionate women in Atlanta, The Sheltering Arms began as a humble sewing circle at the First United Methodist Church. Their mission evolved when they discovered a child tied to a bedpost, prompting them to care for vulnerable children in need. From an old railroad box car to borrowed space in a local bar, these women created a safe haven for families. Today, Sheltering Arms serves up to 3,500 children and their families each year, providing essential learning opportunities from as young as six weeks old.
Impact
Sheltering Arms nurtures children and families through high-quality early learning programs, significantly improving educational outcomes. Children who participate in these programs are more likely to graduate high school, earn higher wages, and reach their full potential.
