The School Board Project

Our Story

The School Board Project was founded by dedicated educators and campaign staffers who recognized the urgent need to counteract harmful policies infiltrating school districts across the nation. Co-founders Isabel Alter, Annika Cole, and Jarae Hines, united through their work on Senator Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 presidential campaign, envisioned a transformative approach to support school board candidates. By providing campaign assistance, resources, and personalized coaching, they mobilized a network of volunteer coaches, successfully pairing over 60 candidates with around 40 coaches in 2023.

Our Impact

In 2023, The School Board Project made a significant difference by supporting over 60 school board candidates in their elections. This initiative harnessed a robust volunteer network of experienced electoral professionals, offering individualized support at no cost. The project is dedicated to electing values-aligned candidates in both left-leaning and ultra-conservative districts, reinforcing its commitment to equitable and inclusive education.
