Our Story
The Sawtooth School for Visual Art has been a cornerstone of creativity in Winston-Salem since 1945. Originally established as the Arts and Crafts Workshop by the Junior League, the Winston-Salem school system, and the City Recreation & Parks Department, the school has evolved through various names and locations. In 1982, it found its home in the iconic Sawtooth Building, and in 2010, it reopened as the Sawtooth School for Visual Art, featuring 15 studios across 20,000 square feet. As it approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025, the school continues to inspire and nurture artists of all ages.
