Our Story

Fueled by frustration and driven by passion, Dorothy Weston Gibbons and Dr. Dixie Melillo founded The Rose, the first nonprofit breast cancer organization ensuring insured coverage for the uninsured. Since 1986, The Rose has been dedicated to providing quality breast health services, advocacy, and access to care for all women, regardless of their ability to pay.

The Rose addresses barriers that prevent women from prioritizing their health. Studies show that women often neglect their own needs while caring for others. Early detection through mammography screenings is crucial in the fight against breast cancer, which is 98% curable when detected early.
