Our Story

The Petey Greene Program was founded in 2008 to honor Ralph Waldo 'Petey' Greene, a pioneering Black media personality and civil rights activist. Inspired by Greene's commitment to social justice, the program provides high-quality education to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals, while advocating for systemic change.

Impact

Since its inception, PGP has tutored approximately 16,000 students across over 50 correctional facilities and reentry programs. With more than 3,200 volunteer tutors recruited from 30 universities, the program has demonstrated that educational initiatives significantly reduce recidivism rates, with participants showing remarkable academic advancement.
