Our Story

On Christmas Day in 1911, a simple act of kindness by Adolph Ochs, the publisher of The New York Times, sparked a movement. After helping a stranger in need, Ochs initiated The New York Times 100 Neediest Cases, a call for donations to support those facing hardship. This initiative evolved into The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund in 1941 and was rebranded as The New York Times Communities Fund in 2023 to enhance its philanthropic mission.

Impact

Since its inception, the Fund has raised over $337 million, positively impacting the lives of more than 2 million people last year alone.
