Founded in 1986 by Mary Jo Pulte and a dedicated group of women, Michigan Women Forward was established to address the significant disparity in philanthropic funding for women and girls. With only 3% of philanthropic dollars directed towards these causes, the organization has become a beacon of hope and support for women across Michigan. Transitioning into a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Michigan Women Forward now provides essential capital funding to small businesses, particularly those owned by women and BIPOC entrepreneurs, fostering generational wealth and community investment.
