Our Story

Founded in 1975 by Chicano artist Peter Rodriguez, The Mexican Museum is the oldest museum in the United States dedicated to Mexican, Mexican American, Latin American, and Chicano art. Located in the vibrant Mission District of San Francisco, the museum is currently preparing to move to a new permanent home in Yerba Buena Gardens, ensuring its legacy continues to thrive.

Impact

The Mexican Museum has reached thousands of visitors through diverse exhibitions and educational programs, fostering a deeper understanding of Latino culture. During the pandemic, TMM maintained its outreach and virtual arts programming, bringing culture and creativity to homes, especially for children, seniors, and vulnerable populations.
