About Coastal Virginia Conservancy
Coastal Virginia Conservancy, formerly known as the Living River Trust, was established to provide vital mitigation alternatives for the coastal Virginia region. Founded in 2004, this organization emerged from a collaboration between The Elizabeth River Project, the Norfolk District of the Corps of Engineers, and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. With a focus on smaller urban parcels, Coastal Virginia Conservancy is the only locally based land trust in the Elizabeth River watershed, dedicated to preserving open spaces that are crucial for the community and the environment.
Impact in Coastal Virginia
Coastal Virginia Conservancy has made significant strides in protecting environmentally valuable land across Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth. The organization has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to community and environmental improvement, receiving the 'Giving Back' Award from Coastal Virginia Magazine in 2021.
