Our Story

The Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI) is dedicated to creating a racially equitable and humane justice system for children and young adults in conflict with the law in Illinois. Since its inception in 2000, JJI has engaged in research, education, and advocacy to foster significant legislative changes that protect the rights of youth.

Impact

JJI has successfully raised the upper age of juvenile court jurisdiction from 17 to 18 and ended automatic transfers to adult court for 15-year-olds. These achievements have transformed the juvenile justice landscape in Illinois.
