Our Story

The Impossible Dream was founded by Mike Browne, a paraplegic with a vision of a fully accessible sailboat. Designed by Nick Baily and launched in 2002, this innovative vessel has become a symbol of barrier-free sailing. After Mike's ownership, Deborah Mellen, also a paraplegic, took the helm to expand its mission, providing sailing opportunities to countless individuals with disabilities.

Impact

Since 2015, The Impossible Dream has sailed over 40,000 miles along the Eastern Seaboard, offering free sailing experiences to more than 1,300 individuals in 2019 alone. Collaborating with rehabilitation hospitals and advocacy groups, the organization raises awareness about accessible design and inspires those with disabilities.
