Scholarships for Education

Our Story

In 1988, Noel and Cora Hord, a couple from Danbury, Connecticut, embarked on a mission to give back to their community. Recognizing the transformative power of education, they initiated a scholarship fund to support deserving and disadvantaged youth. Their first fundraising holiday party raised an impressive $2,700, inspiring them to expand their efforts. By 1993, the Hord Foundation, Inc. was established, dedicated to promoting education and enhancing career opportunities for young people of African-American descent.

Impact

Since its inception, The Hord Foundation has awarded over $4 million in scholarships, empowering more than 1,500 students to pursue higher education. Hord Scholars have gone on to become influential professionals, including lawyers, doctors, and educators, making significant contributions to their communities. The Foundation's annual fundraising events, such as the Gala and Concert, attract hundreds of participants, furthering its mission.
