The Homestead Community

Our Story

The Homestead Community was founded in 2008 to address the urgent needs of children in the foster care system. With a personal connection to foster care, founder Sue Braaten has dedicated her life to creating stable and loving environments for at-risk youth. The organization has made significant strides, including the acquisition of homes in Tacoma and Gig Harbor, ensuring that sibling groups can stay together and thrive.

Impact

By providing subsidized housing for licensed foster families, The Homestead Community is tackling the critical shortage of foster homes in Washington State. This initiative not only helps prevent homelessness among youth aging out of the system but also minimizes trauma for children.
