Support for Young Adults and Seniors

The Healing Center: A Journey of Hope

In 1989, Kath McCormack faced an unimaginable loss when her husband, Rick Deggelman, passed away suddenly at the age of 33. With two young children, Ricky and Barbara, Kath sought solace and support in the community. After moving to Seattle, she discovered a lack of resources for young widows. This realization sparked a mission to create a safe space for those navigating grief.

Alongside fellow widows Joel Junker, Katie Evans, and Barbara Hendricks, Kath founded support groups that would eventually evolve into The Healing Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in September 2000. Initially operating from her apartment and church basements, The Healing Center has grown significantly, now serving over 400 clients annually.

Today, The Healing Center offers a variety of grief support programs, catering to young adults, seniors, and families. The organization remains committed to fostering a community where open and authentic conversations about grief can flourish, providing comfort and validation to those in need.

Impact of The Healing Center

Through the power of storytelling, donations, and community involvement, The Healing Center raised nearly $60,000 during the GiveBIG campaign, surpassing its goal. These vital funds enable the organization to reach more families grappling with grief and to establish new support groups, ensuring that everyone can find solace among peers.
