About The Haven for Children

Founded in 1986, The Haven for Children, Inc. began as a project of the Junior League of South Brevard, dedicated to providing shelter for abused, abandoned, and neglected children from birth to age six. The first nine-bed shelter opened in April 1987, marking the start of a compassionate journey to address a critical need in the community. Over the years, the organization has expanded its facilities and services to accommodate the growing demand for foster care, now serving children up to age ten.

Our Journey and Growth

In 1999, recognizing the increasing need for foster care, The Haven's Board of Directors proposed the construction of a second home, Haven II, which opened in October 2001. This was quickly followed by the establishment of Haven III in 2008, allowing The Haven to welcome even more children into a nurturing environment. Since its inception, nearly 4,000 children have benefited from the dedicated care provided by trained staff, who work tirelessly to meet the daily needs of these vulnerable children.

The Haven operates 24/7, with caregivers committed to nourishing and protecting the children in their care. The organization employs a range of therapeutic interventions, including counseling and behavior modification therapy, to help children heal from their traumatic experiences. The Haven is recognized as a model for therapeutic shelter care, providing specialized support for children with unique needs, including those affected by prenatal substance exposure.
